Dynamic Dunescapes

Earlier this year the Cumbria Wildlife Trust invited artist Irene Rogan to develop temporary artworks and projects on Haverigg dunes as part of the national Dynamic Dunescapes programme. Irene asked international environmental artist Tim Pugh to work with her.

Tim has received many accolades for his work, both in relation to his personal art work projects and his school and community leadership activities. Recently, Tim agreed to work with pupils from Haverigg and Black Combe schools to make artworks in and around Haverigg Dunes using only found materials, natural or manmade.

Following a short presentation by Tim the aspiring young artists created these temporary artworks out of materials collected from around the dunes.

"The children had a wonderful afternoon creating art in the dunes. Inspired by Tim, they developed their ideas and worked together to produce some beautiful pieces."

These pattern designs, incorporating pebbles, shells and other found objects were inspired natural shapes for example the spiral shown here.

Alongside teacher Mark Redhead Tim is seen here presenting some of his work and talking about his approach to making work with natural and found materials.

Young artists from Black Combe Junior School begin the process of collecting materials for their artwork. In some instances students chose to develop works started by Haverigg Primary School and in others materials were redeployed in the creation of entirely new works.

This spectacular artwork commenced with ideas laid down by pupils from Haverigg Primary School and was subsequently developed by pupils from Black Combe Junior School.

Irene and Tim would like to thank teachers, staff and volunteers and of course the young artists. Watch out for events during AUGUST - join in.
